The magazine  includes articles on different celebrities lives. Having this will engage and draw the the audience in as this can also help to relate to what the audience is interested in rather than the magazine just being about music. This draws in  a larger range of people because of the magazines larger range in music genres which also builds a larger audience. Most of the celebrities used are associated with 'Pop' music and are much younger, newer, and famous artists which will engage the audience in even more.

Most of the colours used are really bright and colourful, which creates a more fun and exciting tone. This appeals to the audience because they are younger, and want to make more of a statement which is what the younger generation is all about. They want to be different and the bright colour scheme for these magazine covers create this fun tone which links to the audience. Although most of the colours have colour this is not the case for all of them. Some covers have a black and white colour scheme which create a more modern appearance which still links to the younger audience as that generation is much more modernised.

The fonts used through this magazine are san-serfi which is much bolder look and creates more of a statement which links to the target audience.

MASTHEAD

The masthead (name of the magazine) is always in a black or white, san-serfif font which creates a bold look about it and stands out on the backgrounds. Having the masthead always black/white means that it is recognisable and will draw the audience in as it means they will always know at a glade what magazine it is. The choice of the black and white colours are interesting as they have connotations of being very modern which appeals to the target audience as they are younger and everything is much modern. The colours used on the masthead are: red, yellow and blue which are the primary colours. This is again always the same on every issue, which will make it much more recognisable linking to the target audience.

How does Q appeal to its target audience?

OVERALL
The overall layout of this magazine has a clear pattern between all of the issues because the masthead is always on the left, top hand corner with a celebrity normally being the main focus of the cover. This repetition of the simple format appeals to the slightly older target audience as they are reading it for the information in it rather than the crazy, wacky composition.

COLOUR SCHEME
The colour scheme for this magazine is red, white and black which are three very simples colours, yet they contrast each other, meaning they stand out well. The red conveys danger, which links to the general rock genre and relates to the audience.

TYPOGRAPHY
The fonts used for this magazine are san-serif which is much bolder and creates more of a statement, as it stands out sharply on the background. This bolder image that the san-serfi font conveys link to the genre of the music from the magazine and will appeal to the audience, as it creates a more fun vibe.

MASTHEAD
The masthead for the 'Q' magazine is always the same, which is a strong red colour with 'Q' in a white colour in the box. This is so that it creates an image for itself and will then become recognisable for the audience.  The colour red has connotations of danger which link to the general rock genre of this music magazine. The fact that the magazine is just called 'Q' highlights simplicity which implies that the magazine is also more the older audience as well as younger.

Kerrang Profile

Click the link to see 'Kerrang's' media pack:

http://magazines.bauermediaadvertising.com/magazines/detail/kerrang

The magazine Kerrang has a very clear audience which is much younger because after looking at the Kerrang media pack I found out that 56.1% on average of the people who read/buy this magazine are aged 15-25. This is over half and is a huge amount, highlighting a clear audience.  As the age increases so does the percentage which demonstrates it is a magazine for the younger readers. This implies the magazine is more fun and wacky compared to the others which are more sophisticated. This magazine also has a slightly bigger audience of male which is 54.7% compared to female, being 45,3%. The  demographics for this magazine is quite wide as only 51% of the audience are ABC1, which suggests that this magazine is less sophisticated compared to other ones, for example: Q magazine, which is 70% ABC1.  This magazine has a higher percentage of  the audience being male which is 68.3% which is a lot more compared to female which is 31.7%. This implies that maybe the colour scheme and the articles being used appeal much more to the male then the female. This also suggests that the genre of music that this magazine presents may be more aimed to the male audience as more male read it.

A lot of the language used in the articles are slang terms which will appeal to the target audience as they are younger and will recognise and use this language. The use of this language creates more of a fun tone, which is more interesting and humorous to read which will appeal to the teenage audience.  There are quotes from some of the artists, for example: 'dirty' which portray a rock and roll feel, linking to the magazine. This also conveys a rebellious tone which links to the teenage audience.

COLOUR SCHEME
The colour scheme throughout this magazine is red, black and yellow. These three colours stand out well, contrasting each other which create a statement and a bold tone which link to the rock genre of the magazine. The colour red has connotations of danger which links to the colour black having connotations of mystery. The colour yellow conveys warning and all the connotations of these colours relate to the audience as they reflect their style, attitude and music they like, which is rock.

The font of the masthead is in a san-serfi style, which is much bolder creating more of a statement which links to the music of the magazine. The font of the masthead is smashed which has connotations of violence and rebellion which links to the music. IMAGES
All the images used for the cover are similar in a way that they reflect the rock vibe, appealing to the audience. The images are very posed, with dark colours and are sometimes humorous, which makes the magazine more fun and entertaining. This appeals to the target audience because they're bands/ artists that they enjoy listening to which are styled in a way that appears rocky and edgy which draw the audience in.
